Who We Are

Founded in 2015, Health Development Iitiative/USA (nHDI, Inc.) is a New Hampshire-based, non-profit organization registered with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 non-profit. Our mission is to provide marginalized and vulnerable people with greater access to healthcare.  Guided by the core values of evidence-based practices, equitable partnerships, respect, cross-cultural appreciation, accountability, and stewardship, we are a local group of community members with collective expertise in health education, architecture, sociology, and non-profit development.

Working in Rwanda with the Rwandan-based HDI, we have seen firsthand their capacity to increase healthcare access to vulnerable people, while also empowering them through advocacy and training.  Through our collaboration, we have learned about HDI’s vision to construct a non-discriminatory hospital and clinic in Kigali, Rwanda that would reach out to Rwanda’s disadvantaged groups.  Building on HDI’s proven record of success, we want to help by:

  • Providing on-going support of the healthcare facility through capacity-building, health systems strengthening, educational and professional exchanges, and advocacy
  • Supporting HDI–Rwanda in planning, fundraising, and design of a non-discriminatory healthcare facility for marginalized Rwandans
  • Working collaboratively with disadvantaged groups to ensure that their voice is respected and validated at every step of this project
